As I routine, I ask him to send over a personal photo, a CV, a self-introduction, and his academic performance at his convenience. Two months later, I received from him a personal photo, a CV and a self-introduction. If you were me, what would you conclude?
Here is what I wrote to him.

I feel that you do not really have a strong interest working with me. Let me tell you why I have such conclusion. It took you almost two months for you to return to me with CV, photo and a self introduction. A student who is very interested in working with me will try to send those materials over as soon as possible, and then hope that he would start to work for me as soon as possible. Yes, in my earlier email, I did mention "No hurry. Send over those materials at your convenience." but that does not mean two months! You must have enough other interesting things that distracted you from sending over the materials.
In addition, you were careless. You sent over CV, photo and a self-introduction. Where is your academic performance? I thought I asked you to send over your academic performance, didn't I? Yes. I see the GPA in your CV but GPA is only a crude summary statistic. Shouldn't you send over a transcript showing the grades of the individual courses you have taken so far?
Based on my judgement above, we are both better off that you do not work for me as a research assistant.
Perhaps I had the wrong judgement. Feel free to disagree.
